A novel series of substituted phenyl tetrazolo/triazolo pyrimidinyl-2H-chromen-2-ones 4(a-e) and 5(a-e) in good yields by using o-salyciladehyde as raw material and 3-aryl-1-(3-coumarinyl)propen-1-ones 3(a-e) as intermediates. The chemical structures of the newly synthesized compounds have been characterized by IR, NMR, mass spectral and CHN analysis. All the title compounds are subjected to in vitro antibacterial testing against two pathogenic strains and antifungal screening against two fungi. Among the tested compounds, 4b and 4c show significant antibacterial and antifungal activities. Also the compound 5b show significant antifungal activity against Candida albicans.
