ASPECTS SOCIOECONOMIQUES DE L UTILISATION DES RESIDUS DE CULTURES ET DES SOUS-PRODUITS AGROINDUSTRIELS DANS L’ALIMENTATION DES RUMINANTS DOMESTIQUES A NIAMEY (NIGER)

A study was carried out during 7 weeks in Niamey urban community (Niger) in order to evaluate socio-economic aspects of crop residues and agro industrial by-products on the development of livestock breeding in urban and peri-urban areas of Niamey. For this study, 49 sellers of crop residues (CR), 19 sellers of agro-industrial by-products (AIBP), 205 stockbreeders and the directors of technical services of agriculture and livestock development were interviewed.One hundred thirteen (113) sites of sale of CR out of 415 were identified (285 active and 130 inactive), 16 sites of sale of AIBP out of 72 (63 were active and 9 inactive) and actors involved in these 2 chains.The results of the survey showed that the sellers of CR are mainly farmers and were between 40 and 60 years old. They were on large axes and around of the markets. The CR was sold fewer than two forms of conditioning (boots and bag). The sellers of AIBP were mainly young people. The stockbreeders have a considerable proportion of domestic women and civil servants and the animals belong in majority to the heads of exploitation.It also comes out from this study that the CR and AIBP are more used during the dry season.
