Millets which were cultivated thousands of years ago are one of the most important cereal crops. This study was carried out to investigate the constituents of Pennisetum glaucum fixed oil . GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of 15 components dominated by: 9,12-octadecadienoic acid methyl ester (49.66%) ; 9-octadecenoic acid methyl ester(33.16%) ; hexadecanoic acid methyl ester (6.87%) ; methyl stereate(4.28%).The disc diffusion bioassay was used to assess the antimicrobial activity of the oil. Pennisetum glaucum oil showed activity against all test organisms. It showed excellent activity against Bacillus subtilis and other bacteria except Staphylococcus aureus where a moderate activity was observed . It also showed good activity against the fungal species Candida albicans and moderate against Aspergillus niger.
