The aim of this study is to determine the effect of bank characteristics on the financial performance of Islamic banks in Syria for the period (2009_2015). The financial performance (Dependent variable) is measured by return on assets (ROA), and return on equity (ROE). On the other hand, the independent variables are capital adequacy, liquidity, deposits, efficiency, bank size and Syrian crisis. The study used the methods of Panel Data through estimating fixed effects model. The empirical analysis shows that bank size has a positive and significant impact on ROA and ROE. While efficiency has a negative and significant impact on ROA and ROE. Also, capital adequacy and liquidity have a significant impact on ROA at 10% significance level ,but have no significant impact on ROE. However, the variables (deposits and crisis) have no significant impact on ROA and ROE.
