Bhoksa is a tribe inhabiting areas of the states of Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh in India. Every tribe has a name. The present paper attempted to understand the myths and views of the Bhoksa people as well as the explorations of scholars about how did the Bhoksa get their name and also about their antecedents. The antiquity of the Bhoksa got unfolded through the stories and tales related to their origin. Diversity in the views about their origin and antecedents , on one hand made the ambiguity around their name quite clear, and , on the other hand , they also in a way answer the queries about the origin of the Bhoksa. Views on the name \\\"Bhoksa\\\" inform to a large extent about the oral history of the Bhoksa and this information is very useful amidst the existing dearth of official records about the Bhoksa.
