Abstract

This work aims to study the effect of the introduction of rye bran (variety RC9) with 30% in the diet of WISTAR rats on their weight and some serological parameters. Thirty male Wistar rats, weighing on an average of 175 ± 5 g, have been experienced. They received the following experimental diets: a standard diet, a high-calorie diet, and enriched diet with rye bran system. Measurements conducted on animals show that after a period of 105 days of providing the different diets, the body weight of rats is normal and increases significantly (p <0.01) and only in rats subjected to high-calorie diet. Glycemia and the levels of total cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL-cholesterol increase mainly with the high-calorie diet and decrease moderately with the standard diets and significantly with the enriched diet with rye bran system to stay in the standards. On the other hand, HDL-cholesterol level is less influenced by the change of regime. All results are in favor of a beneficial effect of the rye bran fibers on the Wistar rats’ metabolic sphere, hence the advantage of incorporating them in the human feed.
