Abstract Mixed methods research is a multi-disciplinary approach that combines both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis methods. In most of the environmental sciences studies in the world, mixed methods research has gained popularity as a means of addressing complex environmental issues. This paper reviews the literature on mixed methods research in environmental sciences, including its definition, importance, and methodology. The study also discusses the findings from studies that have employed mixed methods research in the field, as well as the implications and recommendations for future research. The literature review reveals that mixed methods research is an effective approach for understanding the complex interplay between environmental and social factors; as well as for evaluating the effectiveness of environmental policies and programs. The results of this study highlight the need for further research in environmental sciences to continue exploring the benefits of mixed methods research in addressing environmental challenges of the world.
