A PRE- EXPERIMENTAL STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF STRUCTURED TEACHING PROGRAMME ON KNOWLWEDGE REGARDING PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME AND ITS COPING STRATEGIES AMONG FIRST YEAR NURSING STUDENTS IN SELECTED COLLEGE OF NURSING, DELHI

A study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching program on knowledge regarding Premenstrual Syndrome and its coping strategies among first year nursing students in a selected college of Nursing, Delhi. The objectives of the study were to assess the pre-test knowledge of first year nursing students regarding Premenstrual Syndrome and its coping strategies, to develop and administer Structured Teaching Programme regarding Premenstrual syndrome and its coping strategies among first year nursingstudents,toassessthepost-testknowledgeoffirstyearnursingstudentsregardingPre-menstrualSyndromeanditscopingstrategiesandtodeterminetheassociationofpre- test knowledge of first year nursing students regarding Premenstrual Syndrome and its coping strategies with socio demographic variables. Conceptual framework for this study was Imogene Kings model. Prior to the data collection, a pilot study was conducted and written permission was taken from the samples. The final study was conducted from 30/05/2022 to 04/06/2022. A total of 46 GNM I^st year nursing students were selected for the study using convenient sampling technique. The data analysis was done using descriptive and inferential statistics. The pre-test study result showsthatoutof46nursing students, only 6.52% had good knowledge, 86.95% had average knowledge, 6.52% had poor knowledge regarding Premenstrual Syndrome and its coping strategies. However, after the administration of the Structured Teaching Programme, the post-test knowledge presented that 45.65% had good knowledge, 52.17% had average knowledge, and only 2.17% had poor knowledge regarding Premenstrual Syndrome and its coping strategies. There was no significant association found between the pre-test knowledge level of first year nursing students and the selected demographic variables at p<0.05levelof significance. The calculated t value (0.66) was less than the table value (2.00) at p<0.05Levelofsignificance.Hencethestudyresultsconcludedthestructuredteachingprogrammewas effective in increasing the knowledge of the first year nursing students regarding Premenstrual Syndrome and its coping strategies.
