A CLINICO-DEMOGRAPHIC PROFILE, DIAGNOSIS AND MANAGEMENT OF BLUNT ABDOMINAL TRAUAMA CASES AT A TERTIARY CARE CENTER, ELURU
Abstract
Background: Blunt abdominal trauma (BAT) is a critical clinical condition often resulting from road traffic accidents and physical assaults. It presents substantial diagnostic and management challenges, particularly in low- and middle-income countries where trauma-related mortality remains high.
Objective: To explore the epidemiology, diagnostic complexities, and management approaches associated with blunt abdominal trauma.
Methods: A literature-based survey and clinical insight review were conducted, focusing on trauma incidence, diagnostic protocols, and treatment outcomes. Data was compiled from tertiary care center experiences and published medical sources.
Results: Blunt trauma is the predominant form of abdominal injury, often presenting without external signs, complicating timely diagnosis. Imaging modalities such as Focused Assessment with Sonography for Trauma (FAST), CT scans, and clinical vigilance are key. Management varies from conservative monitoring to surgical intervention depending on injury severity.
Conclusion: Enhanced diagnostic training, broader access to imaging, and standardized management protocols are essential to reduce BAT mortality. Multi-disciplinary coordination and early recognition remain the cornerstones of effective trauma care.
