Burkina Faso has highlydiversifieddomestic animal geneticresourcesthat are welladapted to physical, climatic, and pathological environments. This studyanalyzes the socio-economicstatus of livestock farmers in southwest Burkina Faso and the constraints on livestockfarming.A well-structured questionnaire was used to interview 90 farmers. Descriptive methods were used to analyse the collected data. The distribution of farmers shows thatthey are all male.In 85.19 cases, farmerspurchasedlivestock,and 82.5% of farmersusedfamily labour.Baoule taurin isassociatedwith the rearing of otherspecies of animals.The Taurin Baoulefarming system istraditional and extensive, withanimals on naturalpasture. The major constraintsfaced by farmers in performingtheiractivities are social conflictsbetweenfarmers and herders (41%). Other production-relateddifficultieswerenoted, includingfeedingproblems (22%), animal diseases (15%), access to water during the dry season, availability of veterinaryproducts,health care and monitoring,and unfavourable pricesoffered by buyers.
