Background:Metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease(MASLD)is increasingly recognized as a common comorbidity in patients with inflammatory bowel disease(IBD),potentially impacting disease progression and management. While metabolic factors are central to MASLD,non metabolic contributors such as chronic inflammation, microbiota alterations, and IBD related therapies may also play a role.
Objective:To evaluate the prevalence and predictive factors of hepatic steatosis in patients with IBD through a case-control study.
Methods:We conducted a retrospective-prospective study at the Hassan II University Hospital in Fez, including patients with Crohns disease (CD) or ulcerative colitis (UC) who underwent abdominal ultrasound between 2019 and 2025. Patients with ultrasound-diagnosed steatosis comprised the CASE group, while those without steatosis formed the CONTROL group. Demographic, clinical, metabolic, therapeutic, and paraclinical data were collected and analyzed using univariate and multivariate statistical methods.
