This study aims to analyze the available knowledge on wildlife and its habitat in West Africa, highlighting the species present, their conservation status, and the threats they face. This synthesis is carried out according to the methodology Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyzes (PRISMA). The results show that the region hosts a diverse range of wildlife, including mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and other animal groups. Wetlands, forests, and savannas are the habitats with the highest species richness. Most species are classified as of least concern for conservation, but some are vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered. The main threats identified are hunting, poaching, habitat degradation, and the expansion of human activities. This study emphasizes that wildlife conservation is directly linked to the protection of natural habitats. It recommends strengthening sustainable ecosystem management and involving local communities to ensure biodiversity preservation while supporting human development.
