Fertilization in irrigated rice farming relies mainly on the use of mineral fertilizers, which are very often broadcast, resulting in significant losses of nutrients, especially nitrogen. This study, conducted at the Farako-Ba research station in west of Burkina Faso, focuses on the performance of combined biochar application and deep urea placement on nutrient loss dynamics. To do this, a completely randomized design consisting of 20 L pots (treatments) was implemented and repeated five times. The treatments compared are a controlT1:200 kg/ha NPK + urea 150 kg/ha, T2 : 5 t/ha of co-compost+ control, T3 : 5 t/ha of biochar+ control, T4 : 5 t/ha of co-compost + 200 kg/ha NPK + USG, T5 : 5 t/ha of co-compost +150 kg/ha NPK+USG, T6 : 5 t/ha of biochar +200 kg/ha NPK + USG et T7 : 5 t/ha of biochar+150 kg/ha NPK +USG. Effectiveness of the applied treatments was assessed by monitoring growth, yield parameters, and analyzing leachate collected using probes connected to the pots.
