Abstract

Background: Dyslipidemia is a common metabolic disorder associated with abnormal lipid levels and is a well-recognized risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Although it is not described as an independent disease in Ayurveda, its etiopathogenesis and clinical features closely resemble those of Medoroga and Santarpanajanya Vyadhi. Objective: To provide a comprehensive review of the Ayurvedic understanding of dyslipidemia (Medoroga) and explore the role of Ayurvedic principles in its prevention and management. Methods: This narrative review was conducted by systematically searching and critically analyzing classical Ayurvedic texts, standard medical textbooks, and scientific literature retrieved from PubMed, Google Scholar, and other relevant scientific databases. Keywords such as Dyslipidemia, Hyperlipidemia, Medoroga, Meda Dhatu, Medovaha Srotas, and Ayurveda were used. Relevant review articles, clinical studies, experimental studies, and authentic Ayurvedic references published in English were included. Irrelevant and duplicate articles were excluded.
