Abstract
This research article explores the profound philosophical underpinnings integrated within the classical Sanskrit literature of Mahakavi Kalidasa. While Kalidasa is celebrated primarily for his unparalleled poetic aesthetic (Rasa) and romantic narratives, this paper argues that his oeuvre serves as a sophisticated vehicle for classical Indian Philosophy, specifically Advaita Vedanta, Samkhya, and the doctrine of the Purusarthas (the four goals of life). Through a close textual analysis of primary works including Abhijnanasakuntalam, Kumarasambhavam and Meghaditam, this study examines how Kalidasa harmonizes earthly desire ( Kama) with cosmic duty ( Dharma) to pave a path toward spiritual liberation (Moksha). Furthermore, the paper investigates his distinct eco-philosophy, demonstrating how his sentient depiction of nature mirrors the non-dualistic (Advaita) union of the individual soul (Atman) with supreme consciousness (Brahman), represented metaphorically through Lord Shiva. Ultimately, this article reveals that Kalidasas narratives transcend mere human romance, offering a timeless metaphysical inquiry into human existence, karmic destiny, and the spiritualization of aesthetic experience.
