Eco-friendly, green synthesis and antimicrobial evaluation of 4,6-disubstituted-2-(6`-acetyl-O-?-D-glucopyranosylsulfanyl)-nicotinonitrile

A new and efficient solid phase route to the synthesis of 3-cyano-2(1H) pyridinethione/one derivatives, 4,6-disubstituted-2-(2`,3`,4`,6`-tetra-O-acetyl-?-D-glucopyranosylsulfanyl)-nicotinonitriles and 4,6-disubstituted-2-(6`-acetyl-O-?-D-glucopyranosylsulfanyl)-nicotinonitrile by grinding is described. This protocol has the advantages of excellent yields, short reaction time, easy setup, mild reaction conditions, and environmental friendliness. The tested compounds were found to exhibit remarkably better antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli and Bacillus thuringiensis than the control drug.
