Climate Change and Its Impact on Fisheries and Aquatic Ecosystem in Bihar

Climate change is the most important global change phenomenon which has attracted the attention of all community across the globe. With the signs of climate change becoming increasingly tangible with each passing year, concern about its possible implications for various sectors of life on the Earth is also intensifying. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC, 2007a), average global temperature increased by 0.74±0.18°C during the last 100 years. It is estimated (IPCC, 2007b)that in 21st Century global surface temperature will likely to rise further 1.1 to 6.4°C. On account of its close association with climatic variables such as temperature and precipitation, fisheries is indisputably the most climate-sensitive sector, and thus, the possible impact of climate change on this sector of utmost importance to millions of peoples who are directly or indirectly associated with the sector.
