Our Commitment to Responsible Research Assessment
The International Journal of Advanced Research (IJAR) is committed to promoting fair, transparent, responsible, and evidence-based approaches to the assessment of scholarly research and researchers.
IJAR supports the principles of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA) and recognizes the importance of moving beyond inappropriate reliance on journal-based metrics when evaluating the quality, significance, and impact of individual research contributions.
Our commitment to Responsible Research Assessment (RRA) reflects our belief that research should be evaluated primarily on the quality, rigor, originality, transparency, integrity, and contribution of the work itself, rather than on the perceived prestige or metrics of the journal in which the work is published.
Our Approach to Responsible Research Assessment
As a scholarly journal, IJAR is committed to the following principles:
1. Assess research on its own merits
The scientific and scholarly content of an article should be considered independently of the journal’s reputation or journal-level metrics.
Research quality should be evaluated through appropriate consideration of the methodology, originality, rigor, validity, significance, transparency, and contribution of the work.
2. Avoid inappropriate use of journal-based metrics
IJAR does not consider journal-level indicators to be appropriate substitutes for assessing the quality of an individual article or the contribution of an individual researcher.
Metrics such as Journal Impact Factor or other journal-level indicators should not be used as the sole or primary basis for judging individual research quality.
3. Recognize diverse research outputs
Responsible assessment should recognize that valuable scholarly contributions extend beyond traditional research articles.
Where relevant, research assessment may take account of diverse outputs and contributions, including datasets, software, protocols, methodologies, research materials, reviews, educational resources, policy contributions, and other forms of scholarly communication.
4. Encourage responsible authorship
IJAR supports transparent and responsible authorship practices.
Authors should make meaningful contributions to their work, and appropriate information about individual author contributions should be provided where applicable.
The journal supports recognition of the specific contributions made by researchers rather than relying solely on the number or position of authorship entries.
5. Support transparency and research integrity
Responsible research assessment should be grounded in transparent and ethical scholarly practices.
IJAR promotes research integrity, appropriate reporting of methods, transparent presentation of findings, responsible citation practices, disclosure of relevant information, and adherence to applicable ethical standards.
6. Consider qualitative and contextual evidence
Research impact and significance cannot always be adequately represented by a single quantitative indicator.
Where assessment of research contribution is relevant, qualitative evidence and contextual information should be considered alongside appropriate quantitative indicators.
Examples may include influence on policy or practice, contribution to professional knowledge, methodological innovation, societal relevance, educational value, and influence within a particular research community.
7. Promote fair and inclusive assessment
IJAR supports assessment practices that recognize the diversity of research disciplines, methodologies, career stages, research outputs, and scholarly contributions.
Research assessment should take disciplinary and contextual differences into account rather than applying a single metric or criterion universally.
Commitment to the DORA Principles
The International Journal of Advanced Research (IJAR) supports the objectives and principles of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA).
Our commitment is intended to contribute to a broader movement toward research assessment practices that are more responsible, transparent, fair, contextual, and focused on the actual quality and contribution of scholarly work.
Signing DORA represents an ongoing commitment. IJAR will continue to review its editorial, publishing, and research-assessment practices as responsible research assessment develops internationally.
We also encourage authors, reviewers, editors, researchers, institutions, and other members of the scholarly community to consider responsible approaches to evaluating research and researchers.
Transparency and Continuous Improvement
IJAR recognizes that responsible research assessment is an evolving area of scholarly communication. We therefore intend to keep this statement under review and update our practices where appropriate in response to developments in research assessment, scholarly publishing, research integrity, and international best practice.
Our objective is to support an assessment culture in which the substance, quality, integrity, originality, and contribution of research are valued appropriately and are not reduced to a single journal-level metric.
