Abstract
Inhibition performance of two derivatives of chalcone compounds against corrosion of SS type 304 in 1 M HCl was investigated by weight loss and electrochemical measurements. The inhibition efficiency increased with increasing inhibitor’s concentration, but decreased with the increase in temperature and concentration of the acid. The results indicated that these compounds act as mixed type inhibitors and are adsorbed on 304 SS surface following Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The theoretical results revealed that the binding energy between compound (1) molecule and iron surface is the highest among the two studied compounds. The morphology of inhibited 304 SS was analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) technology with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX).
