Abstract

Mulberry exhibits wide range of plasticity and taxonomical confusion due to cross pollination and heterozygous nature of the plant. Ploidy level of the plant varies and majority of the plants are diploid in nature and some exhibited triploid and polyploidy nature. Three genotypes were selected viz., Bird’s foot, Suvarna-1 and F1 hybrid of Bird’s foot and suvarna-1. Cytomorphological characters indicated that Bird’s foot is diploid with 2n=28 and suvarna-1 2n=3x=42 whereas F1 hybrid showed aneuploidy (trisomic)character and is different from both the parents and recorded 2n=2x+1=29.
