Cefadroxil as Save Corrosion Inhibitor for Carbon Steel in Hydrochloric Acid Solutions

Abstract

The effect of an antibacterial cefadroxil on the corrosion of carbon steel was studied in 0.5 M H2SO4 at different concentrations using weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical frequency modulation (EFM) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The synergistic effect of KI was studied. Potentiodynamic polarization indicated that cefadroxil acted as mixed- type inhibitor. EIS measurements were also used to investigate the mechanism of corrosion inhibition. The adsorption of cefadroxil on the surface of carbon steel follows the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Results obtained from EFM technique were in agreement with weight loss, potentiodynamic and EIS techniques.
