Abstract

The present study was carried out in a fresh water pond from May, 2007 to April, 2008 to observe the changes in the abundance of zoobenthos in relation to various environmental variables. Rotifers and Diptera was found to be most dominant groups in the selected pond show eutrophic condition of pond. The population density of diptera varied from minimum 252 No./ m2to a maximum of 413 No./m2. Chironomus was found to be the most abundant species in terms of population density amongst dipteran. Water temperature showed a negative correlation (r= 0.502) with zoobenthic community. Plecoptera recorded a significant negative correlation with water temperature (r = -0.631).
