Medicinal importance of Genus Rheum -A review

Abstract

Genus Rheum is medicinally important as it has hepatoprotective, spasmolytic, anticholesterolaemic, antitumor, antiseptic, antifungal, anti-microbial, anti-Parkinson’s, anti-proliferative, immuno-enhancing, antiviral and antioxidant properties. A huge array of bioactive compounds have been so far isolated from Rheum. This emphasizes on the need of extensive study for the survey of literature regarding the information on the medicinal importance of various species of genus Rheum.
