Abstract
The effect of the addition of lemon oil on the corrosion of ?-brass in nitric acid was investigated using weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and electrochemical frequency modulation (EFM) measurements. It was found that lemon oil behaves as inhibitor. The inhibition efficiency increases with increasing the inhibitor concentration, but decreases with increasing the temperature. The adsorption of lemon oil on the ?-brass surface follows Temkin’s adsorption isotherm. The effect of the temperature in the range 298–313K on the corrosion of ?-brass in 1M nitric acid was studied. Potentiodynamic polarization studies showed that this oil is mixed-type inhibitor and the results obtained from the different techniques were in good agreement.
