Abstract

Five new Vanadium (V) complexes [VO(GFLX)2DMF]Cl3.3H2O, [VO(GFLX)2An]Cl3.5H2O, [VO(GFLX)2Py]Cl3.3H2O,[VO(GFLX)2o-Tol]Cl3.H2Oand [VO(GFLX,)2Et3N]Cl3.H2Ohave been synthesized. The isolated solid complexes have been characterized with elemental analysis, melting point, conductance measurements, IR spectroscopy, UV-Vis, 1H NMR and thermal analysis. The results support the formation of the complexes and indicated that gatifloxacin reacts as a bidentate deprotonated ligand bound to the vanadium (V) through the ketone oxygen and a carboxylato oxygen. The antimicrobial activity of ligand and their complexes has been tested against microorganism, three Gram-negative, Escherichia coli (E. coli), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) andKlebsiella pneumonia (K.pneumoniae)andthree Gram-positive,Staphylococcus aureus(S. aureus), Staphylococcus epidermidis(S. epidermidis)and Bacillus pumilus (B. pumilus), the data showing that the complexes exhibit higher activity than free ligand.
