Abstract

Introduction : High blood pressure is a major cardiovascular risk factor affecting nearly one-third of the world?s population. In the majority of cases (90%) it is essential, and secondary in 10% of cases. The most common cause of secondary hypertension is adrenal origin and are the result of tumours or hyperplasia with aldosterone hypersecretion (Pahs with idiopathic hyperplasia or Conn adenoma), catecholamines , or cortisol (Cushing syndrome). Methods: this is a retrospective study of 14 cases of secondary hypertension to adrenal tumours, performed at the cardiology department in the Mohammed V military hospital and collaboration with the visceral surgery department of the same hospital between October 2011 and December 2017. Results: In our series, the average age of our patients is 38 years, with a female predominance. All patients were hypertensive with an average of 182/113mmHg. The symptoms experienced by patients were different.Abdominal CT was the most requested examination, performed in 11 patients.Treatment was surgical in all patients.Healing was achieved in 8 patients. The evolution was marked by the death of 3 patients, however it was good for 11 patients followed. Conclusion: Adrenal hypertension is the most common cause of secondary hypertension. The treatment is usually surgical with a good prognosis outside of the corticosurrenalomes.
