A STUDY TO ASSESS THE EFFECTIVENESS OF STRUCTURED TEACHING PROGRAM ON LEVEL OF KNOWLEDGE REGARDING MANAGEMENT OF DIALYSIS IN END-STAGE RENAL DISEASE PATIENTS AMONG GNM IIND YEAR STUDENTS STUDYING AT SGRRU, COLLEGE OF NURSING, DEHRADUN

The word dialysis derived from Greek word dialusis, meaning dissolution, dia meaning through, and lysis meaning loosening. Dialysis is a process of removing waste and excess water from the blood, and is primarily used to provide an artificial replacement for lost kidney function in people with renal failure. Dialysis may be used for those with an acute disturbance in kidney function or for those with progressive but chronically worsening kidney function. The number of patients being treated for end-stage renal disease (ESRD) globally was estimated to be 2,786,000 at the end of 2011 and, with a 6-7% growth rate, continues to increase at asignificantly higher rate than the world population. Of these 2,786,000 ESRD patients, approximately 2,164,000 were undergoing HD treatment. In view of increasing number of kidney patientit is vital that nurses must be skilled in renal nursing, maintain a high standard of clinical practice, have excellent communication skills, and develop the individual leadership and management albilities. Nurses should be involved in multi professional discussions where decisions are made about changes in patient treatment. In addition, nurses require the clinical skills and competencies to managerenal patients in different stages of their illness and on particular RRT modalities. (Bouallegueetal, 2013).
