Abstract

In the present paper an attempt has been made to study water quality parameters and pollution status of Tigris River (Baghdad). The water samples were collected from preselected sampling stations from September 2013 to August 2014 at three different sites, important physico-chemical parameters such as temperature, turbidity, conductivity, pH, salinity, TDS, DO, BOD, phosphate, Iron and Zinc were analyzed. Present study revealed that temperature, turbidity, salinity, PO4, DO, BOD5 and Zn are all within permissible limits except pH, EC, TDS, salinity and Fe exceeded the permissible limits. On the basis of this study it was concluded that water of Tigris River is moderately polluted due to discharges of industrial waste, domestic sewage and agricultural runoff in river water, which require more efficient management to conserve this river.
