ASSOCIATION ENTRE SEVERITE DE LA THROMBOPENIE ET GRAVITE DE LA COVID-19 VU AU CENTRE HOSPITALIER UNIVERSITAIRE MORAFENO TOAMASINA

Introduction: CoViD-19 is a systemic viral infection, the 1st case of CoViD-19 in Madagascar was on March 20, 2020 and since then we have observed the association of hematological disorder including thrombocytopenia. The objective was to assess the relationship between thrombocytopenia and CoViD-19 in cases seen at the Morafeno University Hospital Center.

Methodology: this is a descriptive, analytical and prospective study over a period of 4 months from November 2021 to February 2022 within the Morafeno University Hospital Center

Results: We collected 90 patients with an average age of 62 years

on extremes of 25 – 87 years. The sex ratio was 1.25. For comorbidity (n = 68), arterial hypertension predominates at 55.88% followed

by diabetes at 29.41%. For vaccination status, only 10 were vaccinated. For severity on admission, 33% was classified as severe. We had 16 (18%) thrombocytopenia with a median value of 114.12 G/L. There is a correlation between thrombocytopenia and the Neutrophil/Lymphocyte ratio (p = 0.016) (RR = 4.941) and also between the severity

of thrombocytopenia and the severity of CoViD-19 (p = 0.004)

Conclusion: thrombocytopenia was quite high (18%). The severity

of thrombocytopenia was correlated with the severity of CoViD-19. Thus, regular monitoring of the platelet count would be necessary in order to have an adequate course of action.
