SAFETY OF ANTI-OBESITY AGENTS IN ADULTS NARRATIVE REVIEW

Abstract

Background: Weight management medications are appropriate treatment options for individuals who are overweight or obese and have been unable to achieve weight loss with lifestyle intervention alone. In this narrative review, we aimed to review the adverse effects and safety profile of anti-obesity agents in overweight and obese patients.

Methods: PubMed database was were systematically searched for relevant studies published between January 2012 and July 2022 of randomized controlled trials phase II or III of anti-obesity agents, for adult 18 years old with overweight or obesity without diabetes mellitus or secondary causes of obesity.Studies that met eligibility criteria were extracted and reviewed. 48 studies were screened for eligibility, among them, 18 studies fulfill inclusion criteria and involved in the narrative review.
