Maternal and child health care service utilization among the mothers of Ganebail PHC, Belagavi district, India.

Background: Women and men combat similar health challenges, moreover women needs particular attention during physiological process of pregnancy, childbearing and lactation. Maternal mortality is a key indicator of women’s health and status in society. Objective: To study the maternal and child health care service utilization pattern among the mothers of Ganebail PHC, Belagavi District, India. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional study was carried out amongst the recently delivered 520 mothers of Ganebail Primary Health Centre (PHC), Belagavi District. Pretested self administered questionnaire was used to elicit the necessary information. Frequency and percentage was calculated. Ethical clearance and informed consent was obtained from the concerned authority and person. Results: Majority (82%) of the women received complete ANC services and (96.9%) women opted for institutional delivery. Nearly (42.69%) women stayed in hospital for more than 48 hours after delivery. Only (34.81%) women received ? 4 PNC visits and (87.5%) women initiated breastfeeding within 30 minutes of delivery to their newborns. Conclusion: Augmentation of health facilities, encouragement of service provider, creating awareness and motivating women to utilize maternal services in stipulated time will support to achieve furthermore better results.
