Abstract
Prominent leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, Seth Govind Das, Rajarshi Purushottam Das Tandon, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia contributed to the Hindi language movement. Of all these, Rajarshi Tandon's contribution to Hindi language and literature is important. He fought for the status of national language and official language for Hindi language from the streets to the Parliament. The work he did by being associated with the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan throughout his life is no less than an institution. Rajarshi Tandon was a strong supporter of Hindi. This is the reason that on the question of Hindi and Hindustani, he expressed his clear disagreement with a big leader like Gandhi and stood with the Hindi language. His contribution is also notable behind making Hindi the official language.
