Introduction: In Mexico, life expectancy is greater every day, therefore, the number of hip fractures as well. According to INEGI figures in 2005, an estimated 21,000 cases, but an increase of 431% is expected by 2050, reaching 110,055 cases. The management recommended by the guidelines is surgical in all cases in which the physical condition of the patient allows it. Therefore, a good analgesic strategy is important, helping to reduce pain. The introduction of multimodal anesthesia, based on regional anesthesia such as the PENG block, is aimed at improving the quality and rapid recovery of patients.
Objective: To evaluate the perioperative analgesia of the PENG block in the patient scheduled for hip surgery.
Material and Methods: A prospective, analytical longitudinal cohort study was carried out that included 40 patients scheduled for hip surgery at Hospital Regional 1 de Octubre, ISSSTE, who received ultrasound-guided PENG block in the preoperative period. Assessing pain with the ENA scale (numerical analogue scale) prior to the block, then at 30 min, at 10 hours and 24 hours after the block was performed, 20 ml of 0.3% ropivacaine with a linear ultrasound probe were used for this.
