NEGATIVE PRESSURE WOUND THERAPY OVER CONVENTIONAL DRESSINGS - A RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS
Abstract
Ulcers, commonly defined as a breach in epithelial continuity, are a common finding in the surgical OPD worldwide. Management modalities of ulcers include aggressive debridement, wound excision followed by normal saline dressings (NSD), amorphous hydrogel (hydroheal) with insulin dressings (HIS), superoxide with phenytoin dressings (OPH), negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), and so on. This particular study aimed to measure the change in ulcer outcome in cases of chronic ulcers following NPWT and NSD, as well as to compare the difference in duration of hospital stay amongst patients with chronic ulcers following NPWT and NSD. We retrospectively analyzed the results of NSD and NPWT on chronic ulcers by comparing granulation tissue cover in chronic ulcers on subsequent days after regular dressings and also recording the duration of hospital stay of these patients
