PAROTID GLAND TUMOURS : RESULTS OF THE MANAGEMENT OF 30 CASES

Parotid tumours are of great interest because of their clinical polymorphism, histological and evolutionary characteristics and the often complex management, especially in terms of surgery. The aim of our study is to describe the main surgical techniques and the results of the management of parotid gland tumours. We report, through a prospective study, 30 cases of parotid gland tumours collected in the ENT department of the CHN of Nouakchott, over a period of 14 months, between February 2021 and April 2022. The average age of our patients was 43.67 years. The predominance was male with a sex ratio of 1.14. The average time to consultation was 46.80 months. Parotid swelling was found in all patients. Two cases of facial paralysis were present in our patients. MRI was the most requested paraclinical examination. The diagnosis of the tumour was confirmed by anatomopathological examination. There were 25 benign and 5 malignant tumours. The dominant histological type was pleomorphic adenoma (66.67%). All our patients were treated surgically. Post-operative radiotherapy was prescribed in 4 patients. Chemotherapy in one patient with parotid lymphoma. Transient facial paralysis was the most frequent complication in 2 patients.Parotid gland tumours pose many diagnostic and therapeutic problems.Delayed diagnosis combined with inadequate initial treatment further darkens the prognosis if the tumour is malignant.
