In Niger, as in other Sahelian countries, migration has repercussions on the socioeconomic sectors in migrants places of origin. This study analyzes the impacts of migration on agriculture in the Koutous region to understand the implications of migration departures on family farms. Consequently, the methodology employed is based on a mixed-methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative data collection techniques. The results show that migration has significant impacts on the agricultural sector due to the prolonged absence of able-bodied workers leading to a labor shortage. Consequently, the effects of this migration on agriculture are reflected in increased involvement of women and children (50.7%) in farm work; growing reliance on paid agricultural labor (31.1%) to compensate for the loss of family labor; and underutilization of arable land (44.8%).
