ASSESSMENT OF JOB HAZARDS IMPEDING THE PERFORMANCE OF POLICE IN F.C.T, ABUJA

Organizations, whether public or private, frequently encounter environmental and job-related hazards that undermine employee performance. These job hazards, which often lead to increased vulnerability to illness, compromised health, and, in extreme cases, fatal outcomes, are particularly concerning for frontline workers. This study focuses on the job hazards affecting the performance of police officers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja. The study aims to objectively examine the physical hazards impeding effective policing in FCT, Abuja. Explored the causes and ways in which police officers experience these job hazards. The study is grounded in structural functionalist theory, which views organizations as integrated and interdependent systems working together to achieve specific goals. The methodology adopted is the social survey method; the study utilized questionnaires and interviews to gather data from respondents. Out of the distributed questionnaires, 210 were successfully retrieved, and six heads of police divisional units were interviewed. Findings reveal that police officers in Abuja face numerous hazards, including assaults, poor motivation, malfunctioning operational gadgets, and unfair directives from superiors, exacerbating their vulnerability to various hazards both in societal environments and the workplace.
