Abstract
Background: Climate variability is placing growing pressure on electricity systems across the Sahel, yet its relationship with consumption had never been quantified for Maradi, one of Nigers major economic centers and a city already marked by extreme heat, irregular rainfall and rapid urban growth. Methods: Monthly temperature, precipitation and relative humidity data for 2015-2024, drawn from the Maradi Airport meteorological service and national statistical yearbooks, were combined with NIGELEC electricity consumption records. Interannual trends were assessed by linear regression, climate-consumption relationships by Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression, and future consumption was projected to 2054 under the SSP2-4.5 and SSP5-8.5 climate scenarios.
