SUSTAINABLE NON-FUEL RETAIL DEVELOPMENT AT SAUDI SERVICE STATIONS: ENERGY EFFICIENCY, CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE AND COMMERCIAL PERFORMANCE

Abstract
Saudi service stations are evolving from fuel-dispensing sites into multi-service mobility and retail platforms. This study extends the conventional non-fuel retail discussion by integrating energy efficiency, customer experience, vehicle services, circular waste management, solar-canopy generation, last-mile logistics, quick-service restaurant (QSR) partnerships and electric-vehicle charging. The evidence base combines an integrative review of recent peer-reviewed literature with Saudi regulatory and industry evidence and a field-validation protocol for primary research. The proposed primary component links customer surveys, station-manager interviews, structured site audits and operational data to secondary findings so that recommendations can be tested rather than inferred from literature alone. The synthesis indicates that commercial performance depends on the interaction between reliable vehicle services, efficient and comfortable facilities, credible waste handling, renewable-energy integration, convenient digital and last-mile services, and partnership formats that increase dwell time and basket value. Because no completed survey or interview dataset was supplied with the manuscript, the paper does not fabricate primary findings; instead, it specifies the variables, sampling plan, instruments and analysis needed to generate them.
