Abstract
The responsibility of the media in disseminating information in the Sahel (a region threatened by terrorism) is a complex issue. Indeed, one often wonders how these media can inform populations about terrorism without harming the security systems or security strategies put in place by the central state. However, not informing or misinforming about jihadist attacks can be interpreted as a violation of the public's right to information. Faced with this situation, the media have a great responsibility to play. How does the media deal with it in Niger? What collaboration do they maintain for this purpose with the executive power? It is about this reflection to take stock of the strategy of the media in the treatment of information on terrorism without prejudice to the right to information, to security strategies in Niger in order to fix the responsibility of journalists. The work takes a qualitative approach, the analysis of media content particularly. Mass communication theories serve as models for analysis. The results show that journalists face difficulties accessing information sources, a heavy reliance on official communications, legal and economic constraints, and limited collaboration with security authorities. The study also highlights the need for a more collaborative approach to information governance based on strengthened cooperation among the media, defense forces, public authorities, and regulatory bodies, in order to effectively balance the public's right to information with national security requirements.
