Exploring the Use of Tobacco among School Age Students in Kabul city, Afghanistan

Background Tobacco use is a major preventable cause of premature death and disease worldwide. Approximately 5.4 million people die each year due to tobacco-related illnesses (which is about 7% of all deaths) -- a figure expected to increase to more than eight million a year by 2030. If current trends continue tobacco use may kill a billion people by the end of this century. It is estimated that more than three quarters of these deaths will be in low- and middle-income countries.
