Summary of Thesis

Hemorrhoids are vascular cushions in the anal canal that acts as a comfortable barrier for the anus. Their exact cause is not fully understood, but current theories suggest that deterioration of these cushions leads to hemorrhoid formation. Excisional hemorrhoidectomy is a common and effective treatment for severe cases. Postoperative symptoms include bleeding, swelling, discharge, anal itching, and pain, with pain being the most immediate and distressing. Pain management is crucial due to the complex and subjective nature of pain, influenced by factors such as excessive tissue removal and infections. While various treatments have been tested, metronidazole has been shown to reduce postoperative pain but is not widely used.
