Abstract

The learning of mathematics in the Higher Teaching in Angola, a requested and investigated area, in courses of Accountancy and Engineering. This article has as main objective to investigate the behavior of students during the learning of Mathematics and to determine the main factor that leads to the misunderstanding of Mathematics in the Polytechnic Superior Institute of Bie. In Angola still exist many problems related to the learning of Mathematics, since secondary education till university. It is clearly defined that mastering languages influences in decisive way in learning of Mathematics, clarifying the relation that might exist between language and mathematics, mainly in students of Accountancy and Engineering. In spite of having good teachers of Mathematics, the problem of misunderstanding in the subject of mathematics still continues. The studies achieved with the students of: Informatics-Engineering, Water Resources-Engineering and Accountancy-Administration. With the intervention of the department of modern languages at the Polytechnic Superior Institute of Bie. Apart from the noticeable lack of linguistic competency of the Portuguese language, the results show factors that influences to the misunderstanding of Mathematics, among them can be found the following: The quality of Mathematics Teacher, the teaching methodology used, and the level of Portuguese linguistic competence.
