Abstract

In Burkina Faso, groundwater is an essential resource for drinking water, irrigation, and industry, especially during the dry season. In the Kossodo industrial zone, it supplies 95% of the water needs of both the population and industries, but its quality is a concern due to pollution. This study aims to assess the physico-chemical and bacteriological quality of seven boreholes in the area and to propose corrective measures to reduce health risks. Physico-chemical results show temperatures between 28 and 31.25 C, turbidity ranging from 0.13 to 1.45 NTU, a slightly basic pH (6.74 -7.48), and low conductivity (261 -462 uS/cm). All parameters comply with WHO and ONEA standards, except orthophosphate (0.5 0.8 mg/L). Microbiological analyses reveal the presence of faecal coliforms (F2: 17 CFU/100 mL; F5: 38.5 CFU/100 mL; F6: 15 CFU/100 mL) and faecal streptococci (F5: 1 CFU/100 mL; F6: 0.5 CFU/100 mL), while E. coli is absent. These results highlight the importance of regular monitoring and the implementation of corrective measures to preserve groundwater quality and minimize health risks.
