Abstract
The production of fertilizers from phosphate has a significant impact on crop yields. To this end, it is necessary to closely monitor the production of phosphoric acid, an essential component in fertilizer manufacturing. This acid is produced by the reaction of phosphate with sulfuric acid; this is known as the sulfuric acid process. In Morocco, the sulfuric acid process for phosphoric acid production is, to date, the only process in use. However, it has numerous drawbacks: the generation of large volumes of waste (5 tons of phosphogypsum per ton of Pâ‚‚Oâ‚… produced), the radioactivity and acidity of the phosphogypsum, the failure to recover by-products of high commercial value, and the existence of strict environmental restrictions, particularly regarding process optimization and the reduction of pollutants. In this work, we have focused on a new option to reduce the costs and environmental impacts associated with phosphoric acid production, based on the study of two alternative routes to the traditional one: the hydrochloric acid method and the acetic acid method, which may offer greater e
