Abstract
This study examined the appraisal of evaluation techniques in Physical and Health Education and their implications for teaching and learning outcomes in Nigerian universities. The study was guided by three research questions and three null hypotheses. A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population consisted of 1,250 respondents comprising 150 Physical and Health Education lecturers and 1,100 undergraduate students from selected Nigerian universities. A sample size of 400 respondents, consisting of 80 lecturers and 320 students, was selected using a multi-stage sampling procedure. Data were collected using a researcher developed questionnaire titled "Evaluation Techniques and Teaching-Learning Outcomes Questionnaire (ETTLOQ)."The instrument was validated by experts in Physical and Health Education, Measurement and Evaluation, and Educational Research, and a reliability coefficient of 0.82 was obtained using Cronbachs Alpha method. Mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while Pearson Product Moment Correlation and regression analysis were used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance.
