Abstract

Background: Karanja (Pongamia pinnata Pierre) and Palasha (Butea monosperma Lam)are two important medicinal plants extensively described in Ayurveda for their Krimighna, Kushtaghna, Kandughna, and Vranaropana properties. Although both drugs are widely employed in traditional medicine, comparative pharmacognostical and physicochemical evaluation of their seeds, along with chromatographic profilingis limited. Standardization of these medicinal plants is therefore essential for ensuring their authenticity, quality, and therapeutic efficacy. Aim: The present study aimed to carry out a comparative pharmacognostical, physicochemical, phytochemical, chromatographic study of the seeds of Karanja (Pongamia pinnata Pierre) and Palasha (Butea monosperma Lam).
