Abstract
Background: Heavy metal contamination has arisen as a major global public health concern, owing to its persistence, bioaccumulation, and toxicity even at low levels. Lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) are especially concerning due to their broad environmental dispersion and well-documented negative effects on human health. Aim: The current study aims to measure the concentrations of Pb and Cd in natural hair, dyed hair, and selected hair coloring products to evaluate the health risks and clarify the extent of cosmetic-related heavy metal contamination within local consumer markets.
