AUTOMATION AND OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE IN PHARMACEUTICAL DRUG-DELIVERY MANUFACTURING: AN EVIDENCE-GATED FRAMEWORK FOR SAUDI VISION 2030

Purpose — Pharma 4.0 is commonly argued as a technology catalogue rather than a measured operating model, and the Saudi localization case is commonly argued from a single market projection. This paper reconstructs both arguments on traceable evidence and asks what automation can be shown to deliver in drug-delivery manufacturing while a validated state of control is preserved. Design/methodology/approach — A structured secondary-data synthesis was conducted. Peer-reviewed manufacturing studies reporting observed plant data, Saudi regulatory and industrial-strategy sources, and normative GMP guidance were assembled under a four-tier source hierarchy. Every quantitative indicator was traced to its primary publication and recomputed from the published series; derived indicators are labelled as arithmetic scenarios rather than forecasts.
