Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a major metabolic disorder characterized by persistent hyperglycemia and associated disturbances in carbohydrate, lipid, and protein metabolism. The limitations and adverse effects associated with prolonged use of synthetic antidiabetic agents have stimulated interest in medicinal plants as potential sources of safer and affordable therapeutic alternatives. Piper chaba Hunter, a medicinal plant of the family Piperaceae, has traditionally been used for several health conditions and contains diverse bioactive constituents, including alkaloids, piperine, flavonoids, phenolic compounds, and essential oils. This study evaluated the antihyperglycemic potential of Piper chabasmethanolic extract (PCME) in alloxan-induced diabetic Swiss albino mice.
